What are the basics of leasing a vehicle?
What leasing all boils down to is you are paying to use the vehicle. You never actually have to outright own the vehicle, you are just putting in monthly payments to drive around a vehicle for a few years until the lease is up and then you can make another lease agreement, or do something different. Leasing is a great opportunity to drive around in a newer vehicle, and for someone who might not be so adept with cars, it’s a great way to put your mind at ease, knowing you’re driving something new. Leasing is a quick and easy way to make sure that you are getting the latest and greatest vehicle on the market, with less headache than other forms of driving a car.
- What part of leases can be negotiated?
There are three factors that go into figuring out the cost of a lease. Two of these factors, price of the vehicle and money, can be negotiated. The third, which is residual value, has been set by the manufacturer and cannot be negotiated. That means that there are parts that can be discussed if the price isn’t exactly what you need.
- How long do leases usually last?
Most car leases are for 3 years, or 36 months. However, there are some deals where you can lease for 2 years, or 24 months. More often than not, it’s suggested to at least lease for 3 years, and that still gives you a long time to be driving around in a vehicle that you love.
- What happens when my lease ends?
Well, it’s simple! When the lease ends, and if you are under your allotted miles and your vehicle is in good condition, you just return your vehicle. Some people choose to buy their vehicles after they lease them, especially since they become used to how the vehicle works and the different quirks that it might have. Otherwise, the lease is over, the vehicle is returned, and now you have the option to lease again or choose another option.
The short answer is no. Only new vehicles are able to be leased as they hold higher residual values and are easier on finance rates. While we understand why that’s a common question, you will only be looking at new vehicles when you consider leasing as an option.
