Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country?
The NHTSA has issued 14 recalls affecting the 2012 Chrysler Town and Country covering components including equipment (fire extinguishers), transmission, windshield, electrical system, air bags, TPMS, seats, and hood latch. Key safety issues include clogged Kidde fire extinguishers that may not discharge, transmission pump seizure causing loss of motive power, windshields installed with expired primer that could dislodge in a crash, and electrical-switch overheating that can risk fire. All corrective actions listed by the manufacturer are free and must be completed by a certified dealer; common fixes include part replacement, reprogramming, or re-torqueing of components.
How do I check if my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country has an open recall?
You can check your VIN at NHTSA.gov to confirm open recalls for your 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram can also check recalls for you at no charge — bring your VIN to our service lane or schedule service and we will verify open campaigns using manufacturer tools. We recommend checking both NHTSA and the dealer’s records because some manufacturer campaigns (like Kidde extinguisher replacements or transmission pump service) are tracked by the dealer and may be eligible for immediate remedy.
How much does a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs for the 2012 Chrysler Town and Country are performed free of charge to the owner when completed at an authorized franchise dealer. Examples from the recall list: replacement windshields, transmission pump replacement, TPMS reprogramming, and ORC or vent switch replacement have been covered by Chrysler at no cost under recall campaigns. Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram uses OEM parts and factory-trained technicians and will never charge for recall remedies; if you want additional optional repairs, ask about our service specials and our service financing options to pay over time.
Can I get my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs for safety-related manufacturer campaigns should be performed at a certified franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts and correct software calibrations, so you should bring your vehicle to a dealer like Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Certain recalls require factory diagnostic tools or software updates (for example, TPMS reprogramming or occupant restraint control module flashing) that independent shops may not have access to, which is why the manufacturer requires dealer repair in many cases. If you choose a non-franchised shop for unrelated maintenance, an open recall remains your responsibility — recall work performed by an authorized dealer ensures the record is closed with the manufacturer and protects warranty, safety, and resale value.
How long does a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country recall repair take?
Repair time varies by recall: simple reprogramming or switch replacement may take under an hour, while transmission pump or windshield replacement can take several hours to a day. When you arrive at Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram we provide an estimated turnaround based on the specific recall; you can schedule service online to minimize wait time and receive a clear time estimate. If parts are required and not immediately in stock, we will order them and prioritize your vehicle — ask about loaner vehicles and our service specials while you wait.
Does an open recall affect my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country's trade-in or resale value?
Yes — unresolved recalls can lower trade-in and resale value because many dealers and private buyers check NHTSA and manufacturer records before purchase. Getting recalls completed at an authorized dealer like Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram documents the remedy with the manufacturer, often restoring buyer confidence and protecting value; you can start an appraisal at our trade-in page. We offer free recall verification and will close recall records on your vehicle, preserving resale value and ensuring safe operation for future owners.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2012 Chrysler Town and Country recall?
Some recalls (for example, windshield mounting or emissions-related issues) can cause vehicles to fail state inspections or safety checks if the defect affects safety or emissions compliance. Because the 2012 Chrysler Town and Country recalls include windshield mounting and other safety-related items, we recommend resolving open recalls before inspection; Kahlo Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will verify recalls and perform the required free repairs. Schedule an appointment to have our factory-trained technicians inspect your vehicle, close open campaigns, and ensure your Town and Country is safe and inspection-ready.
